Whilst Sam and I will privately ( and occassionally publicly) admit freely to being touched with the geek-brush there is one aspect of life which I firmly believe should, all things being equal, be left to nature rather than managed with technology.
Birth….
I’ve experienced both - 1 induction, several ( well a ‘bloody lot’ to be truthful) hits of gas and a caesarean and then 2 natural births at home ( and yes babies 2 and 3 were bigger than the first!).
If you are questioning the way you want to experience birth there are many useful websites but if you are in SA the Hombirth Network is a great starting place.

Earlier this year, under full moon and autumn night skies, a wise woman, with strong spirit and a forgiving heart passed away. She taught me much about stuggle and passion and compassion not to mention grace. As I drive past the land where her fore-mothers camped and see it being excavated I think of her. When the pelicans are feeding in the river, I think of her. When I see ‘pigs-face’ growing I think of her. I see her smiling face, hear her gentle way with children. I see her anger and hear her curses. I see her tiredness and hear her cry. But most of all I hear her wicked laugh and see the twinkle in her eye.
Thankyou Aunty V.

As I begin pouring content into our fabulously designed-by-Adam website the new Kev Carmody double album is playing in the background. Disc 1 is a selection of Aussie bands covering his songs whilst Disc 2 is Kev and assorted friends singing the same songs… I can’t get enough of it. After seeing Kev at Womadelaide this year, the whole family starts singing at some point during From Little Things Big Things Grow … very appropriate for a home with three little-but-always-growing people and a great way to teach them about the often ignored history of the country we belong to.
Try this National Gallery of Australia link for a picture of the man the song celebrates…
